Please pardon us while we brag for just a moment.

The entire Lee & Cates Glass family is more than a little proud of Meghan Garner. Meghan is the daughter of Bob Garner (our Vice President of Human Resources) and Donna Garner (the Financial Assistant in our corporate office). She’s also the niece of our President, Tom Lee.

In late August, Meghan completed the Ironman competition in Louisville, Kentucky.

She had run both a half and full marathon before, but the Louisville event was her first Ironman. The competition consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bicycle ride, and a 26.2-mile run – without a break. (I need a nap after driving 2.4 miles.)

“It had been on my bucket list for a while,” said Meghan, “and I wanted to complete one before I turned 30.”

Meghan knew that finding the inspiration to train for the grueling event would be difficult, so she was glad to learn about a training group in 904 Fitness Magazine. The group was forming specifically to train for the Louisville Ironman.

Meghan realized that if she was going to meet her goal of finishing an Ironman competition, it would be with the help and encouragement of the people in this group.

And finish she did.

While Meghan never threatened the top competitors, she accomplished a feat that relatively few people even attempt. After giving it her all for 16 hours, 43 minutes and 46 seconds, Meghan crossed the finish line at 3 minutes before midnight. More than 40 family members and about 15 Lee & Cates Glass employees stayed up to watch her complete the race via a live video link. (See Meghan’s results here.)

Meghan is hoping to run more races in the future, but her first Ironman will likely be her last. “Been there, done that,” she said. “Got the medal (and the T-shirt).” As well as an accomplishment in which she can take great pride.
