Tub and shower enclosures are certainly more attractive than plain old shower curtains.
Unfortunately, they attract more than just the eye. While mildew and soap scum aren’t so pretty, there are a few ordinary household items that you can use to make sure that your tub and shower enclosures stay sparkly on a regular basis.
First of all, regardless of what the commercials may say, it’s not always necessary to use bleach, glass cleaner or other harsh chemicals. In fact, a 1:1 ratio of vinegar and hot water in a spray bottle will do the trick for most enclosures. Let the solution stand on the surface for about 5 minutes before rinsing it off with hot water.
After rinsing the vinegar solution, clean any track runners and tile grout with regular white toothpaste and an old toothbrush to effectively get the grime and buildup out of the smaller grooves.
Lastly, if you have glass shower doors, saturate a clean cloth with baby oil (you read that right!) and wipe down the surface of the glass. Why? Baby oil acts as a preventative coating to deter soap scum, mildew and other types of grime from accumulating on the outside of the glass. And voila! You’ve effectively and easily mildew-proofed your own slice of bathroom heaven.
